In that day there shall be a fair vineyard, and a desire to commence a song concerning it.

I’ve always had

a love of art since I was a young child, but after spending some time painting in the basement/Art Studio of my great uncle John Hatch, an art professor at U.N.H. it unleashed a passion in me that has continued to this day.

Nature is always

hinting at us. It hints over and over again. And suddenly we take the hint.”

~Robert Frost

With art,

one mustn't be fearful. There’s always an eraser or a stroke of white to add to the canvas to cover the mistakes. If only life were as simple as that.

These obscure little thieves

can be quite beneficial to the “bee-keepers” These furry and masked critters feed on wasps that attack the hives. When the bees are at peace, farmers have something to feed on as well... and quite sweet at that.

“A DNA study in 2014 found that the genetic mix of eastern coyotes is 62% coyote, 14% western wolf, 13% eastern wolf, and 11% dog.”

Lakes Region

When my children were young, our family would vacation in China Lake, Maine. My grandmother grew up in what the locals call the “big house.” I’ve been told she would bring Lucy, her little pet lamb right into the post office every morning.

Old Port and Sea Scapes

“He saw at the waters edge two boats, left there by the fisherman, who were washing their nets...”

The Two Sisters - 2017

The Globetrotters - 2019

The Two Sisters and the Globe Trotters were inspired by the photography of my Husband, Markus who has spent the last 30 years on the Gulf of Maine as a fisherman. He has captured some beautiful things.

The Arctic Terns are one of Maine’s threatened and endangered wildlife due to seagulls, human interference, and shortages in food. They can migrate thousands of miles round trip from their nesting areas here in North America to areas in the Arctic where they spend the winter.

Blenkhorn Ax Co.

My son Joseph requested this picture in 2022. The Blenkhorn Ax Company 1842-1962 was founded by a great-grandparent. Once located on the shores of Canning, Nova Scotia, the building no longer stands but the heritage and craftsmanship remain. The axes were and still are remembered to be some of the finest handmade axes on the continent. A Nova Scotia logger James Moore wrote in Woodchips and Beans, “ We thought they had something if they got a Blenkhorn.”

Friends

When I was a small child my mother had a horse named Fanny. I wanted a pony too, but my father said we couldn't afford one. It was this desire that taught me what prayer was. My mother gave me a prayer test and said, “Pray honey, ask your heavenly Father for a pony.” She didn't realize how detailed my prayer would be. I asked for a white pony, small, saddle and bridle included.

Two weeks later as she was driving home she looked over to see a sign in a field, “ Pony for Sale.” beside the sign a little white Shetland pony. She pulled in to speak with the farmer. He explained that the pony, the saddle, the bridle, and the pony’s foal were all for sale for $50.00.

To this day, I still pray and to this day my prayers are still answered..Faithfully..

Bunny - 2024

Childhood memories are a funny thing. One may think they lie buried away in an old chest only to be remembered at will. Bunny was my first pony; remembering her is never at will, she frolics into my mind like a horse in a meadow seeking the lush green spaces that are filled with other things.

Maine’s Best Friend - 2023

Maine’s Best Friend

was an idea I had when I started a welcome sign for my own home. The Lab is Maine’s State Dog. Mainers love their labs; Mainers love their pets-: “Man’s Best Friend” is “Maine’s Best Friend”

Samson

How does one make sense of a shackled servant?

Broken, imprisoned, blind

Forgotten by others, left behind.

One day in prayer I felt impressed “It's the broken vessels that are precious to Me, it’s the broken vessels that are able to see.”

Nehemiah

was my first painting in 2003. I had read the story of Nehemiah. I was in awe at the strength that arose in him from something one might see could weaken a human; “grief.”

Nehemiah - 2003

Into My Heart - 2011

Into My Heart

was painted in 2011 for the cover of a Passover Invitation for the Congregation I attended. The Hebrews were leaving Egypt, walking through the waters that parted and stood as a wall on their left and right. They were heading straight into the heart of their redemption, the heart that will hold, feed, deliver, and bleed right beside them.

“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.” Exodus 14:13

King David - 2006

I ran a liturgical dance team

for a number of years. These were some of the happiest years of my life. During this time I painted of the teachings that were read in the congregation where we practiced each week. Some of these touched my heart and compelled me to visualize what was being read.

“On the tenth day of this month, every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household”

Exodus 12: 3

This little lamb was to keep them “alive”

Proverbs 30:30

Joseph - 2006

Joseph is a story found in Genesis 37. It is the most beautiful and profound true story I have ever read. His brothers threw Joseph into a dried-up well. He was found and lifted from the pit and became the most powerful King of Egypt besides the Pharoah himself. This is the God I serve.

“Come now, let's kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we'll see what comes of his dreams.” ...

Genesis 37:18-20

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Psalm 23:2

David~The Shepard Boy- 2004

"Now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. O Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy hill.

Revelation 19:16

This painting was purchased in person by a world renowned Rabbi many years ago. I was told it was hung for some time in the entryway of his congregation or office. I pray it was a blessing to many, as his ministry has blessed so many as well.

My Father’s Joy - 2012

Abigail had married Nabel, a foolish man. She suffered greatly because of this. We live in a fallen world, and in that fallen world are fallen men, and with fallen men come great deception, and with great deception: Matthew 24:4

“See to it that no one deceives you. “

“David has sent us to you to take you to become his wife.”

The memories are so vivid. I believe many of us know the few but sweet sweet moments that we wish we could relive.

Promises

I named this work after one of my favorite songs from the album, “Promises.” By Rabbi Brian and Sue Samuel. The words of their song true:

“His promises endure, Mountains may be shaken and hills may be removed but His promises endure. The Broken, battered, tossed and tattered’s lives are transformed” by His love, his enduring and never ending love..

Ruth and Naomi - 2011

She answered, Be not against me, to desire that I should leave thee or depart; for wherever you shall go, I will go; and where you shall dwell, I also will dwell. Thy people shall be my people and thy God shall be my God.

Ruth 1:16

This was a project through TBN.org Tree of Life Bible Society. These colorful pictures were almost used for the Bible. The Director and Editor chose to use black and white instead. These remain unused and waiting for a storybook of their own. I have many more: David and Goliath, Ruth and Boaz, and Queen Ester, all colorful, vibrant, and unique in their style.

Raffe

Hi! my name is Raffe

I am a spotted Giraffy

My neck is long

my legs are too

I wrote this tale

Just for you

I graze in green fields

I eat the leaves on a tree

I’m much bigger than your daddy

Even when I’m only three

I live in Africa

I am a giraffica

I can live a long life

If I am not chased by ‘lion’ traffica

I am yellow and brown

I’m the tallest in town

I’m the spotted class

I can walk real slow or

I can run real fast

I am not at all lazy

so don't call me daisy

There is one thing

that you should know

When the food is too high

up I go

I like being tall

Its like I can fly

I’m not scared

and I surely don't cry

I feel like a king

not a monkey who can swing

Raffe the Giraffee- 2006

I feel so stately

But I've been thinking lately

I wish at times

that I was small

like a bug or an ant

and on the ground

I could crawl

I’d never have to

worry about

hitting my head

on the trees up high or finding a place for a bed

I’d be a lot closer to my animal friends

and when I needed

something down

I wouldn't have to bend

Well I guess we all think at times we weren't us

I guess we all do

make a stink or a fuss

but being me is so fun and being you is too

so let’s like being us

staying in our own shoe

Brenna Blenkhorn

My daughter, drew this picture when she was about 12 and I painted it for her. She is now 28 and a Graphic Designer in Boston. I cherish those precious moments I had with her when she was young.

I painted this Moose in 2023 after scrolling through some images online. The tiny delicate flowers aroused my competitive spirit, and I faced the challenge head-on. I enjoyed painting the tiny white hairs and the long flowing blades of grass.

Moose in the Meadow - 2023

In the early summer mornings in Maine,

I sit by the water's edge. The Lakes, so quiet, still sleeping. I read my books, I swim, I paddle board. I am the CEO of the beach and tell others to hold my calls.

The Causeway - 2023

In Naples Maine, there is a place they call, “ The Causeway” It is bustling with tourism in the summer and fall, but when the tourists head home, there is a quiet peace that seems to whisper, “ I now have time for you.”

I take great delight in capturing the captured moments...

Red Fox in Winter - 2023

This Red Fox in Winter was inspired by a bright red fox running across my backyard last winter. They run swiftly with a short delay every so often to take in their surroundings. Listen carefully, then carry on.

White Mountains, N.H. - 2010

Shawn Pillsbury 1974-2018

This Chickadee is in Memory of a close friend I would spend time hiking with, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He taught me to hold out my hand and let the birds land on it. I will never forget how it felt to be completely trusted by something so fragile and fearful. It must be how God feels when we trust in Him.

Saco River, Crawford Notch - 2016

Saco River was captured during a hike one very cold day in September of 2015. I paused on a bridge just before starting my trek up. it was serene, peaceful colorful; the clouds floating by over the peaks of the distant mountains. I wondered how many cameras held this same scene in their albums.

Wedding Contracts

The Eisenhaur Ketubah 2011 (?)

The Ricker Ketubah - 2023

I have painted many Wedding Ketubahs or Contracts for couples over the years. These contain everything a Bride and Groom cherish between themselves: Colors, moments, favorite Bible verses or quotes, and very specific details that they can capture to remember for their lifetimes together.
